My name is Grace Rivera; I am a single mother born in Puerto Rico and raised in Brooklyn New York. I started with health and workout when my sons’ father said, “ Girl you’re getting kind-a-heavy and your behind is starting to look square”. At this point I started to look in the mirror every day because of the complex I had. I kept sucking my gut in and still no hope. I said to myself, “Grace it’s time to take charge of your life”.

My name is Colette and I grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan, a small suburb outside of Detroit and attended Michigan State University (MSU), where I received a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics and a minor in Dance. While at MSU, I started to develop a passion for weight training. Before I started weight training, I looked like your typical 5’5”, 120 pound running instructor / modern dancer. I had a decent shape, but I was skinny. I taught a lot of aerobics classes while attending MSU, and at that time it was “WORKOUT” to see how many aerobics classes you could do in a row. I remember a time when I used to teach 20 + aerobics classes a week. Talk about a way to burn workout!

You don’t have to be a weightlifter to benefit from strength training. In fact, many studies show that even average people should incorporate strength training into their regular fitness routine. Regular strength training is credited with helping even average people maintain healthy bones, prevent injuries, speed up their metabolism, and just look healthy.

Flavia Crisos – Weights Girl

was born in São Paulo on September 6, in 1977. I had a childhood rich in motor experiences where I practiced ballet and other sports for more than ten years.

In 1994 I moved to Florianópolis, an island in the south of Brazil, mainly to run away from the violence and the chaos of São Paulo, but also because I liked to surf. So, the harmony between sun and tranquility was perfect.

I started weight training ten years ago to gain weight since I was very slim. But with time I got a taste for the weights. So, after attending college for Physical Education and acquiring the technical knowledge, my training became more serious and complex. The transition between casual and competitive training was only a consequence of this process.

It was not easy in the beginning since I always prepared myself without help. I have never had a coach and I made a lot of mistakes until finding the proper way. However, the competitive environment, the relationship with other athletes, as well as my personal experiences, facilitated my technical development and gave me a better knowledge of my true potential.

I moved out to live on my own when I was about 17 years old. I always wanted to see what it was like to live in the US so I moved to Atlanta when I turned 18.

I moved Ass to the Netherlands and decided to get back in college. I’m now studying social work. In my first year I had lots of spare time and decided to hit the fit. After sport for 4 months I did my first figure competition and got 3rd place. Competing for the first time wasn’t that scary for me because I love to be on stage and I love to be in front of the camera. I wasn’t nervous at all, I had lots of fun. I qualified for the Dutch Nationals IFBB and competed there a month later. I got 3rd place again. Now I decided to work hard and try to win the Nationals in the next year. And so I did… I won the Dutch Nationals in April 2006 and was invited to do the World Championships in September.
